VAULTRECOVERY WING

VAULT · Recovery Wing

The recovery wing is the most operationally sensitive zone in VAULT. It is the highest-liability, highest-loyalty, highest-signal square footage in the building.

A great Charlotte gym has weights. A great Charlotte boutique studio has one specialty. VAULT is the only place in the city where a member trains hard in the morning, contrasts at lunch, sits in a private cabana with a partner in the evening, and walks out feeling like they lived a full day.

The recovery wing floor plan is specified in 00_FLOOR_PLAN_CONCEPT (1,600 sq ft shared wing + 900 sq ft private cabanas). This doc specifies protocols, staffing, booking rules, and programmed classes.

Head of Recovery hired month 4 pre-opening. Reports to GM.

The four core modalities

1. Traditional Finnish sauna

Spec: 12-person capacity, cedar interior, 175-190°F, humidity managed via ladle-and-water self-service on the stones.

Protocol guidance (posted at sauna entry): - 15-20 minutes per session - 2-4 sessions per week for baseline benefit - Hydrate: minimum 16 oz water before entry, another 16 oz after - No electronics inside - Modest attire required (swimwear or robe, per state code) - Members should exit if lightheaded, nauseated, or dizzy - Not recommended after alcohol - Not recommended for members with uncontrolled cardiovascular conditions, first-trimester pregnancy, or acute infection

Attendant coverage: - Peak hours (6-9 AM, 5-8 PM weekdays, 9 AM-1 PM weekends): 1 recovery attendant stationed in wing - Off-peak: attendant available on call from adjacent lounge, monitored by camera (privacy-preserving, motion-activated wellness detection, not surveillance)

Cleaning cadence: cedar wiped down between sessions during peak, deep clean nightly, humidity-driven mildew inspection weekly.

2. Cold plunge

Spec: 4-person shared plunge, 45-55°F, ozone + UV filtration, mineral-balanced, temperature holds within 2°F band.

Protocol guidance: - 60-180 seconds per session (new users cap 60 sec, experienced 90-180 sec) - Breathing pattern: nasal-in, slow-out through mouth. Attendant guidance offered during peak. - One person entering at a time, minimum 30 sec spacing to allow water settle - Cardiovascular contraindications require MD clearance before use - Not recommended within 4 hours of a heavy meal - Not recommended immediately after heavy alcohol - No solo cold plunge during off-peak (buddy or attendant supervision required, house rule for liability)

Attendant coverage: always present during peak. Off-peak: attendant within earshot from adjacent lounge, motion-activated wellness check.

Cleaning + water quality: filtration continuous. Water quality tested twice daily. Full drain + refill every 14 days.

3. Steam room

Spec: 8-person, 110-118°F, high humidity, eucalyptus essential oil infusion (adjustable, mild default).

Protocol guidance: - Up to 15 minutes per session - Hydrate before and after - Respiratory support benefit (mild, not therapeutic) - Not recommended with contact lenses in - Steam is stronger than it feels: exit at any dizziness

Attendant coverage: same as sauna coverage grid.

Cleaning: tile surfaces wiped between peak sessions, full sanitization nightly, humidity + mold inspection weekly.

4. Contrast therapy

Spec: 2 contrast shower stations in the shared wing (transition between sauna/steam heat and cold-jet shower). Also programmed as a scheduled session in the private cabanas.

Protocol (contrast session): - 3-5 rounds - Each round: 3-4 min hot exposure (sauna or steam), 30-60 sec cold shower - End on cold - 15-20 min total session length - Recovery attendant offers guidance for first-timer sessions - Hydration protocol same as sauna

Recovery wing operations

Staffing

  • Peak hours (6-9 AM, 12-2 PM, 5-8 PM weekdays; 9 AM-1 PM + 3-7 PM weekends): 2 recovery attendants (1 shared wing, 1 cabana turnover + supervision)
  • Off-peak: 1 attendant on call from adjacent lounge station, motion + camera-monitored wellness detection
  • Broadcast-mode days: attendant coverage bumps by 1 additional attendant for talent/production recovery pass access

Recovery attendants are trained in: modality protocols, safety (fainting response, cold-plunge extraction, sauna emergency egress), CPR/AED, member hospitality (name recognition, preference recall, discreet service).

Hydration + amenities

  • Cucumber + citrus water pitchers refilled hourly at attendant station
  • Chilled sparkling water on request
  • Cold towels (rolled, chilled, eucalyptus-scented) available on request
  • Robe program: cotton + linen blend, white, member’s initials embroidered for Black Card
  • Slipper program: disposable slippers for guests, house cotton slippers for members

Signage

Minimal, editorial. Every modality has: - Recommended session length - Contraindications - Hydration reminder - QR link to full protocol brief in-app

No fitness-industry laminated signage. Cast brass plaques with laser-etched text, mounted flush.

Music + lighting

  • 2700K throughout, dimmable in zones
  • Music: house-curated (Trill’s VAULT Sound library), ambient, no lyrics, no beats above 80 BPM
  • Members can override music in cabanas via in-cabana tablet (limited playlist selection to preserve aesthetic)
  • Sound decoupled from adjacent zones (locker room, lounge, studios)

Safety + liability protocols

Detailed in 07_OPERATIONS/02_SAFETY_LIABILITY, but recovery wing-specific highlights:

  • Signed waiver required at membership signup + specific recovery-wing addendum for cold plunge
  • Attendant present at all times cold plunge is in use during off-peak enforcement
  • Emergency call button in each cabana + at cold plunge (silent alarm to attendant station)
  • AED mounted in recovery wing hallway (in addition to lounge + gym floor units)
  • Max occupancy signage at each modality
  • Time-limit reminders (soft chimes at 15 min in sauna, 90 sec in plunge)

Recovery wing hours

Open 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. Cabana booking window: 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM (last booking starts 9:00 PM). Deep clean overnight: 10:30 PM to 4:30 AM (all modalities offline).

Broadcast-event nights: recovery wing stays open until midnight for talent + production access (member-hours end at 9:00 PM those nights, communicated in-app 72 hours in advance).

Recovery revenue contribution

Recovery is bundled into Studio + Black Card dues. Direct revenue is thin (cabana upcharges for Studio + additional Black Card slots).

Direct recovery revenue at maturity Y3: - Studio cabana bookings: 360 Studio members x ~1 booking/mo x $85 = ~$30K/mo, ~$367K/yr - Black Card additional cabana bookings: 120 Black Card x ~2 additional/mo x $65 = ~$187K/yr - Direct recovery revenue: ~$554K/yr

Indirect value: - Justifies Studio-tier $499 pricing (Studio without recovery is a Y City Fitness at $99/mo) - Justifies Black Card $999 (private cabana as the visible luxury signal) - Referral engine (members bring guests specifically to try recovery)

The recovery wing is the anchor of the retention story. Members do not leave a facility where they get a $500/mo modality stack that costs $150+/visit à la carte in Charlotte.
