VAULT
Naming Architecture
The parent brand and everything that lives underneath it. Rationale for each name, use cases, and rules for how the names lock up with the VAULT wordmark.
Architecture principle: branded house. VAULT is the parent. Everything wears the wordmark. Nothing breaks away.
1. VAULT (Parent Brand)
Full name: VAULT. Wordmark: Fraunces Italic, uppercase. Legal entity: Held under Taj’s parent operating entity (structure finalized in legal docs, not brand).
Why VAULT
A vault is where valuables are kept. It signals scarcity, security, deliberateness, and worth. It is a room, not a service. It is architectural, which matches the physical thesis of the brand. It reads luxury without saying luxury. It reads athletic without saying athletic. It reads private without saying private. It works in a whisper.
Short, single-syllable, easy to say, easy to own. Not a wellness word. Not a gym word. Not a spa word. That is the point.
What VAULT refers to
- The Charlotte flagship club, as a physical place.
- The parent brand under which all sub-brands sit.
- The member community, sometimes referenced as “inside the VAULT.”
Usage rules
- Always uppercase in the wordmark.
- In prose, “VAULT” or “the VAULT” both acceptable. “The VAULT” reads more like a place. “VAULT” reads more like a brand. Match the register.
- Never possessive (“VAULT’s”) in headlines. Fine in body copy.
- Never pluralized. There is one VAULT for now. If chapters open, each takes a place suffix (VAULT Charlotte, VAULT Atlanta), not a numbered edition.
2. THE VAULT INVITATIONAL
The competition IP. Produced by The Walker Group.
What it is
A curated, invitation-only pole and dance competition staged at VAULT Charlotte, filmed at broadcast quality, released as an annual event and a media property.
Why the name
“Invitational” is the exact right register. It signals selection, respect, and stature. Golf has invitationals. Track has invitationals. Tennis has invitationals. Pole and dance have not been given the same seriousness of framing at the elite level. THE VAULT INVITATIONAL corrects that.
“THE” in all caps, always. It is not “a” vault invitational. It is the one.
Usage rules
- Always uppercase.
- Wordmark lockup: THE VAULT INVITATIONAL in Fraunces Italic, with the parent VAULT wordmark visually anchored above or beside.
- Never shortened to “TVI” externally. Internally acceptable in ops docs.
- Producer credit: “Produced by The Walker Group” appears in the tail credits of every filmed release and on the event program.
3. Membership Tiers
Three tiers. Named, not numbered. Named to describe the member’s relationship to the room, not their spend level.
The Founders
The highest tier. Reserved for the first cohort of members who join before opening, and for a permanently capped number thereafter. Full club access, named locker, private studio hours included, first seat at every VAULT Invitational, an in-person introduction to Taj upon joining, founder’s signed folio.
Why “The Founders”: these are the members whose belief funded the room. The name honors that, permanently. This tier is a legacy status, not a price point.
The House
The core membership. Full club access, recovery included, class credits generous but not unlimited, guest privileges. Most members sit here.
Why “The House”: the club as their house. Warm, belonging, permanent. It signals membership without status theater.
The Room
The entry tier. Off-peak access, recovery included, limited class credits, guest privileges with notice. For members whose schedules or budgets don’t match The House, but who belong.
Why “The Room”: the smallest promise VAULT can make and still keep. A room worth being in. That is the minimum contract.
Tier naming rules
- Never “Basic,” “Silver,” “Gold,” “Platinum,” or any hierarchy that reads gym.
- Never “VIP.” VAULT has no VIP tier because every member is treated as one.
- The tiers are always presented in this order in public copy: The Room, The House, The Founders. Entry first, aspiration last. Members choose up.
4. Apparel Line
Name: VAULT (as label) with sub-collection designators.
Structure
The apparel line does not have a separate brand name. It reads simply “VAULT” on the label. Sub-collections are named by drop and season, not by trend.
Sub-collection names
- VAULT Core. Permanent essentials. Training pieces, robes, towels, day-to-day. Always in stock.
- VAULT Invitational. Limited pieces tied to the annual competition. Released each September before the event.
- VAULT Founders. Not for sale. Given, once per year, to members holding The Founders tier. A physical marker of belonging.
Why the structure
A branded house apparel line reads as an extension of the club, not a separate business. Every piece is a wearable membership card. The founders’ piece is uncommercial by design, which is what makes it desirable.
Usage rules
- No influencer seeding for the first three drops. Members and staff wear the line first. Photography is documentary, not campaign.
- No sale, ever. Sold-through, then archived.
- Materials palette lives inside the visual identity: cream linen, black cotton, deep bronze thread, oxblood accents on Invitational pieces only.
5. VAULT Digital
The digital membership tier and app-based extension of the club.
What it is
A remote and travel-friendly membership: filmed classes, coach follow-alongs, recovery protocols, member community, VAULT Invitational archive access. Also serves in-club members when they travel and want continuity.
Why “VAULT Digital”
Straight, functional, unmistakable. Names the thing. Digital does not compete with the physical club, it services it.
Usage rules
- Sub-brand lockup: “VAULT DIGITAL” set in Söhne Kräftig small caps, beneath the parent wordmark, hairline rule between.
- Marketed to members first, non-members second. This is not a lead-gen product. It is a service.
- Content is commissioned, filmed at broadcast quality, never repurposed influencer content.
6. VAULT Café and VAULT Lounge
The hospitality footprint inside the club.
VAULT Café
The daytime food and coffee counter. Open to members and their guests. Small plates, a rotating kitchen, prosecco always.
VAULT Lounge
The evening and event space adjacent to the café. Hosts member events, THE VAULT INVITATIONAL after-parties, private founder gatherings.
Why two names
The café is a public-facing service that happens to sit inside a private club. The lounge is an event space that opens and closes on rhythm. Separating them lets each hold its own tone: café is daytime and functional-warm, lounge is evening and cinematic. Same room, different mode.
Usage rules
- The café can be booked by members for guests without paperwork.
- The lounge is booked through the concierge, and only for aligned events.
- Menus set in Söhne with Fraunces Italic headers. Prices in Söhne Mono. No dollar signs. Numerals only.
- Never called “the restaurant” or “the bar.” Café and lounge, exactly.
7. Retail Micro-Boutique
Name: THE HOUSE SHOP.
What it is
A small, curated retail moment inside the club: VAULT apparel, a rotating selection of aligned outside brands (recovery tools, grip aids, athletic-luxury basics, a small book selection, one or two candles, member-favorite objects). Physical footprint under 300 square feet. Staffed by the concierge team, not a separate retail associate.
Why “The House Shop”
It sits inside The House (the middle membership tier reference, and the club-as-home metaphor). It is a shop, plainly named. No pretension. Reads like a great small shop inside a hotel, which is exactly what it is.
Usage rules
- Curation is Taj’s call, quarterly.
- No consignment. All product bought outright and priced at retail.
- No branded merch that reads promotional. If it wouldn’t sit next to a KITH t-shirt on a wooden shelf, it doesn’t stock.
- Signage: brushed brass plate, engraved “The House Shop,” on the oak wall beside the entry. No storefront window graphics.
8. Private Studio Rooms
Individually named. Not numbered.
Three private studios inside the flagship. Named after three women who shaped Taj’s sense of a room worth being in. Names finalized by Taj before launch. Working placeholders below to hold the pattern.
Naming pattern
Each studio takes a single first name, set in Fraunces Italic on a foil-pressed cream card inside a brushed brass frame beside the door. No signage inside the room itself.
Placeholder names (Taj finalizes)
- Studio One placeholder: MAE
- Studio Two placeholder: CAMILLE
- Studio Three placeholder: SIMONE
Why named, not numbered
Numbered studios read as gym. Named studios read as suites. Members book “Camille at 6” instead of “Studio 2 at 6.” The room takes on a character, and the character is a woman. That is deliberate.
Usage rules
- Names are permanent. They are not sponsorship inventory.
- Booking language always uses the name: “Your session in Camille begins at 6:00 pm.”
- If a fourth studio is added at expansion, it is named the same way, chosen by Taj.
9. Sub-Brand Rules (Summary)
- Every sub-brand carries the VAULT wordmark somewhere in its lockup.
- No sub-brand competes with the parent in size, weight, or visual dominance.
- Sub-brand names are set in Söhne Kräftig small caps below the parent, hairline rule between. THE VAULT INVITATIONAL is the exception (it stands alone in Fraunces Italic at full weight, because it is the media property, not a service).
- No sub-brand gets its own color palette, typography exception, or photography style. One system.
- No sub-brand launches without a founder review by Taj.
10. Names Not to Use
Rejected during development. Kept here so they do not resurface.
- “VAULT Wellness.” Wellness word ban.
- “The Vault Club.” Redundant.
- “Vault Athletic.” Splits from luxury frame.
- “Vault Society.” Reads network-marketing.
- “House of Vault.” Reads editorial-magazine, not club.
- “Vaulted.” Adjective, not a name.
- Any tier named “Elite,” “Prestige,” “Signature,” “Platinum.” Gym language.
- Any studio numbered.
- Any use of “Vault” as a verb in copy (“vault your training”). Never.
